Terms of service

These terms cover your use of Slip, the mobile apps and web app made by Slip Labs, Lda. They explain what we owe you, what we ask of you, and what happens if either side wants to stop.

Definitions

“Slip” means the iOS app, the Android app, the web app at app.slip.app, and the forwarding address you use to send receipts to us. “We”, “us” and “our” mean Slip Labs, Lda, a company registered in Lisbon, Portugal. “You” means the person who holds a Slip account.

“Your content” means the receipts, statements, images, notes, labels and rules you put into Slip. “A receipt” means any document you send us to be read — a photo, a PDF, an emailed order confirmation, or a scanned till slip.

Slip is a tool for reading and organising records of spending that has already happened. Slip is not a bank, a payment service, or an investment product. We never move money, never hold money, and never act on your behalf with any merchant or financial institution.

Your account

You need an account to use Slip. You must be at least 16 years old. One person, one account — accounts are personal and are not to be shared, resold, or handed to someone else.

You are responsible for keeping access to your account safe: your device passcode, your email inbox, and any passkey you set. Tell us at security@slip.app if you think someone else has got in. We will help you close the session and, if you want, wipe the data.

Anyone who can send email from an address you have verified can add receipts to your account. That is the point of forwarding, and it is also its risk. Remove an address in Settings the moment you stop controlling it.

Acceptable use

Use Slip for your own records, or for records you are entitled to hold — a household’s shopping, your own freelance expenses, a small business you run. Do not use Slip to store documents belonging to people who have not asked you to.

Do not upload anything unlawful. Do not try to break, scrape, overload, or reverse-engineer the service, and do not use automated tools to pull data out of the web app in bulk. If you want your data out, use the export — it is there for exactly this, and it is free.

We may suspend an account that is being used to attack the service or to harm someone. Where we can, we will tell you first and give you a chance to explain.

Subscriptions and billing

Slip has a free tier and a paid tier called Slip Plus. The free tier keeps the last 60 days of receipts and allows 30 receipts a month. Slip Plus is EUR 4.00 a month or EUR 40.00 a year, keeps everything, and lifts the monthly limit.

Subscriptions bought inside the iOS or Android app are billed by Apple or Google under their terms, and renew through them. Subscriptions bought on the web are billed by our payment processor and renew on the same date each period until you cancel. Prices include VAT where it applies.

If we change the price, we will email you at least 30 days before it takes effect, and the change will only apply from your next renewal. You can cancel in that window and keep the old price until the period ends.

Cancellation

You can cancel at any time, from Settings on the web or through the App Store or Google Play if that is where you subscribed. Cancelling stops the next renewal. It does not end the period you have already paid for — Slip Plus keeps working until the last day.

When a paid period ends without renewal, your account returns to the free tier. Nothing is deleted at that moment: receipts older than 60 days become read-only and stay available to export for 90 days. After that they may be removed.

If you want the whole account gone, use Delete account in Settings. Our privacy policy sets out exactly what is erased, how long the erasure takes to reach our backups, and which billing records tax law obliges us to hold on to.

Our content

The Slip apps, the web app, the name, the logo, the interface, and the code behind them belong to Slip Labs, Lda. While your account is open you have a personal licence to use them, which you cannot transfer or sublicence. That licence does not let you copy the software, sell access to it, or build a competing product from it.

Feedback you send us — a bug report, an idea for a category, a note about a merchant we read badly — we may act on without owing you anything for it. We will not attach your name to it publicly without asking.

Your content

Your receipts stay yours. We do not claim ownership of anything you upload, and the permission described in the next paragraph is the only claim we make on it.

You give us the narrow permission we need to run the service: to store your files, to read text out of them, to categorise the result, to index it so search works, and to show it back to you across your devices. That permission ends when you delete the content or the account.

You are responsible for having the right to upload what you upload. If a document belongs to someone else and they ask us to remove it, we may do so and will tell you.

Availability

We aim to keep Slip running, and we publish incidents at status.slip.app. We do not promise it will never be down. Planned maintenance is announced in the app at least 48 hours ahead where we can.

Some parts of Slip depend on other companies — email delivery, storage, the app stores. When they fail, Slip can fail with them. We will say so plainly rather than blame something vague.

We may change how features work, and occasionally remove one. If a removal affects data you already have, we will give you at least 60 days’ notice and a way to export it first.

Liability

Slip reads documents and sorts them. It makes mistakes: a total misread by a digit, a category assigned to the wrong bucket, a receipt in a language we handle poorly. Check anything that matters. Do not use Slip as your only record for tax, for an audit, or for a legal claim.

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for lost profit, lost savings, or decisions you make based on what Slip showed you. Where we are liable, our total liability is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before the problem arose.

Nothing here limits liability we cannot limit under Portuguese or EU law — including liability for fraud, for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or your rights as a consumer.

Changes to these terms

We update these terms when the product changes or the law does. The date at the top always tells you when the current version was published, and we keep the previous versions available at slip.app/terms/archive.

For a change that reduces what you get or increases what you owe, we email you at least 30 days before it applies. If you do not agree, cancel before the date and the old terms govern the rest of your paid period. Smaller corrections — a clearer sentence, a fixed address — take effect when published.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of Portugal. If we cannot settle a dispute between us directly, the courts of Lisbon have jurisdiction.

If you are a consumer in the EU, you keep the protection of the mandatory law of the country you live in, and you may bring a claim in your own local courts. Writing to us first is usually quicker than either route, and it costs you nothing.
